2010/11 Terms & Conditions

This document contains a summary of some of the Kea Rental Conditions for 01 April 2010 to 31 March 2011. For full detailed conditions refer to the conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement at pick-up. All prices quoted in this document are in Australian dollars. 

Protection Package

Standard Liability

All KEA Campers vehicles come with comprehensive insurance cover. A Bond of AU$7,500 is taken to cover the Excess in the event of any damage to our vehicle. The hirer will also be fully liable for demurrage - the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (max 14 days) - and for replacing or repairing damaged windscreens and tyres. Overhead and under-body damage on the rented vehicle is not covered.

Important: Bond Payments By Credit Card

If the hirer does not choose to purchase an Excess Reduction option from KEA Campers, a bond of AU$7,500 is taken. This bond is deducted from the customer’s credit card when they pick up their KEA vehicle. We only accept Visa, MasterCard, AMEX and Diners Club. Visa and Master Card will incur an additional surcharge of 2.0 % on any transaction, AMEX and Diners Club 5.0 % on any transaction.

When the vehicle is returned to KEA undamaged and no third party damage occurred, the excess is refunded. Like other currencies, the AU Dollar does fluctuate, sometimes by up to 3 or 4 cents in a period of only 3-5 weeks. Fluctuating exchange rates, the difference between buy and sell rates charged by banks as well as bank fees, may result in the amount refunded being different. KEA Campers is not liable for currency variations or bank transaction fees which may be payable, depending on the credit card provider.

The bond is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date, with no damage incurred to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property and the toilet cassette and waste water tank has been emptied and no items are lost or damaged.

- If the Bond was paid by credit card, the Bond will be refunded onto the credit card. Any currency fluctuations are not the responsibility of KEA Campers.
- If the Bond was paid with cash, the refund will be with cash.
- If the Bond was paid with traveller's cheques, the refund will be with cash or Kea company cheque.

KEA Campers offer the following two (2) options to reduce or waive the Standard Excess:

1) Excess Reduction 1

Excess Reduction 1 at AU$28.00 (AU$35.00 for 4WD vehicle) per day will reduce the excess for any damage to the vehicle to a maximum of AU$2,000. The hirer, however, will be fully liable for demurrage - the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (max 14 days) - and for replacing or repairing damaged windscreens and tyres. Overhead and under-body damage on the rented vehicle is not covered.

A bond of AU$2,000 is payable at the time of pick up and can be paid by cash, traveller's cheques or credit card: a manual imprint of the credit card will be taken. The bond is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date in clean condition with no damage incurred to the KEA Campers vehicle, with a full tank of fuel, the toilet cassette and waste water tank emptied and no equipment lost or damaged.

The total insurance charge is limited to a maximum of 50 days or AU$1,400 (AU$1,750 for 4WD).

2) Excess Reduction 2

Excess Reduction 2 at AU$38.00 (AU$45.00 for 4WD vehicle) per day will waive the excess for any vehicle damage and the cost of replacing or repairing windscreens and tyres. Overhead and under-body as well as single accident damage on the rented vehicle is also included.

A bond of AU$500 is payable at the time of pick up. The bond is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date in clean condition with no damage incurred to the KEA Campers vehicle, with a full tank of fuel, the toilet cassette and waste water tank emptied and no equipment lost or damaged.

The total insurance charge is limited to a maximum of 50 days or AU$1,900 (AU$2,250 for 4WD).

IMPORTANT:
The renter is fully liable for any damage to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property if:

1. Any damage to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property if the terms of the rental contract are breached.
2. Damage caused by careless, wilful or reckless driving.
3. Damage is caused by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
4. Damage caused due to single vehicle roll over.
5. Damage caused by driving on restricted roads.
6. Damage to the awning.
7. Damage to or loss of any personal belongings.
8. Damage caused by the use of incorrect or contaminated fuel.
9. Damage caused by part or total water submersion or salt water.

In case of any damage to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property a second bond will be collected to cover the excess for any subsequent damage.

In the instances of a manual vehicle being hired, the driver must be a competent and experienced operator of manual vehicles.

Rental Charges

Rentals are charged per calendar day. Day of pick up and day of drop off are included as days of rental regardless of time of pick up and drop off. 

Minimum Rental Duration

Minimum rental period: 7 days (special periods apply for one-way rentals).

Special periods:

• Bathurst and Phillip Island: to be advised.
• Christmas: minimum rental period of 10 days for all vehicles collected between 20 December 2010 - 05 January 2011 from all branches.
• Minimum rental periods are subject to change during peak periods.

Vehicle rentals are calculated on a per calendar day basis, i.e. day of pick-up or drop off is always counted as a full day irrespective of what time it is collected or dropped off.

Rental Locations (Vehicle collection & return)

Locations:

Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Broome, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney

Office Hours:

Monday to Friday (including Public Holidays): 0800 to 1700 (last pick-up/drop-off at 1600)
Saturday/Sunday (including Public Holidays): 0800 to 1300 (last pick-up/drop-off at 1200)

(Late returns will be charged on a per day basis)

All branches are closed Christmas Day.

Darwin is closed for pick-up's and drop-off's from 11 December 2010 to 27 March 2011.

Kea vehicles are available at the following locations:

• 2+2 Flip Top: Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney
• 2 Berth S/T: All branches (excluding Broome)
• 4 Berth: All branches (excluding Broome)
• 6 Berth: All branches (excluding Broome)
• 4WD Camper: Adelaide, Alice Springs, Broome, Cairns, Darwin and Perth

One Way Rental Fee

One-way rentals are available between all branch locations (subject to the minimums outlined in the table below). A one-way rental fee of AU$350 is charged for rentals 20 days or less.

Broome Surcharge

An additional charge of $750 applies to all rentals picking up or dropping off (or both) in Broome.  This is in addition to the one-way fee if applicable.  Only the Hitop and 4WD Adventure Camper are available for hire to and from the Broome branch.

Traffic Infringements

The hirer is liable for all fines and penalties in relation to the driver's use of the vehicle or the vehicle itself incurred during the rental period plus an administration fee of AU$75 for each speeding and AU$25 for each parking or toll-road infringement that has been redirected by KEA to the hirer.

Credit Cards

Kea accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club. Visa and MasterCard will incur an additional 2% on any transaction, including the Bond. American Express and Diners Club will incur an additional 5% surcharge fee on any transaction, including the Bond.

Rentals in Melbourne (City Link)

With the introduction of electronic tolls to City Link roads in Melbourne (3rd January 2000), clients will need to ensure they have a pass to use the roads. Clients without a pass will be liable of fines up to AU$150.

Driver's Licence

• A current and full state or national driver's licence is required per driver at pick-up.
• Provisional licences are not accepted.
• Copies or translations of driver's licences are not accepted.
• If the licence does not use English characters or does not have a photo, an international driver's licence must accompany the original licence.
• An accredited English translation will be accepted in lieu of an international driver's licence.
• The licence must be valid for the whole length of the rental.

Road Restrictions

Two-wheel drive vehicles can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads or well maintained access roads of less than one (1) kilometre long to recognised campgrounds or national parks.

Four-wheel drive vehicles cannot be driven on Fraser Island but can be driven on the following recognised, unsealed tracks with the express permission of KEA: Cape York between December and May, Simpson Desert, Gunbarrel Highway, Canning Stock Route, Oodnadatta Track, Birdsville Track, Warburton Road, Tanami Track, Gibb River Road, and any other area in excess of 100 km from the nearest sealed road.

KEA reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.

Smoking and Animal Restrictions

Smoking in KEA vehicles is strictly prohibited, and offenders will be charged a fume removal fee of AU$500. Animals are also not permitted in any KEA vehicle and the same cleaning fee will apply.

Repairs

Repairs of up to $100.00 may be effected without authorisation and will be reimbursed. Amounts above $100.00 require approval from KEA on-road assistance.

Vehicle Return

All vehicles must be returned to the agreed location, on the agreed date in clean condition with no damage incurred to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property, with the toilet cassette and waste water tank emptied and no equipment lost or damaged. A fee of AU$250 will be charged if the toilet cassette is not emptied or the vehicle is not returned in a reasonable clean condition.

Vehicles must be returned with a full fuel tank. Refuelling at our depot will be charged at AU$3.00 per litre of fuel plus a handling fee of AU$25.

Booking Amendments

- Prior to pick-up, SelfdriveShop.com can assist with booking amendments up until the date of pick-up. This is subject to vehicle availability and may result in rate adjustments. If rental dates are amended within 14 days of vehicle pick up, no refund will be made if the hire is
shortened. If the pick up or drop off rental location is amended within 14 days of vehicle pick up, a relocation fee may apply.

- After pick-up, if the hirer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must contact Kea direct and obtain authorisation from the destination branch. Changes to the drop off rental location after the rental has commenced must be approved by KEA reservations. If approved a minimum charge of AU$750 applies.This is subject to availability and any extra rental days are charged at Kea's standard (brochure) rates. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone on confirmation of the rental extension.

Bedding

Bedding includes (per person), pillows, pillow cases, duvets, sheets and towels. You may wish to bring your own beach towel.

Living Equipment

Each vehicle is supplied with complimentary living equipment, including cooking utensils, pots/pans/frypan, plates & bowls, cups & glasses, gas kettle, electric kettle, dish cloth & brush, tea towels, bucket, dustpan & brush, electric toaster, cutlery, tin opener, corkscrew, gas lighter, coffee plunger, microwave cookware (applicable vehicles only), food containers and chopping board.

Vehicles also come with clothes hangers, clothes pegs, fire extinguisher, fresh water hose, waste water hose, biodegradable toilet chemicals and full LPG bottle. (You are responsible to refill the gas bottle(s) during your hire only).

Luggage

Soft bags are recommended for easier storage inside the vehicles. Or l uggage can be stored at Kea rental locations free of charge at the owners own risk.

Bikes and Surfboards

Please advise if you wish to travel with bikes and/or surfboards inside the hire vehicle (vehicles do not come with bike racks or roof racks). Kea grant permission on a case-by-case basis and take into consideration the size of the hire vehicle, the length of rental and other factors.

With any bulky items, Kea does not accept any responsibility for any damage caused to the client's property. However clients are responsible for any damage that the bulky items cause to the rental vehicle, regardless of any Excess Package taken.

Please note that in 2009/10, Kea offer free transfers from the Airport to the branch (on day of pick-up only) in their Inclusive Rate. If you are travelling with bikes or surfboards, you may need to arrange a Maxi Taxi (i.e. a larger taxi). Depending on the fare cost, Kea reserve the right to reimburse for a standard taxi fare only.

• Camping Table: AU$35.00 per rental     
• Camping Chair: AU$30.00 per rental
• Beach Umbrella: AU$20.00 per rental
• Baby/Booster Seat: AU$50.00 per rental
• Baby Capsule: AU$50.00 per rental
• First Aid Kits: A comprehensive first aid kit is supplied in every vehicle. If the seal is broken or the kit is not returned, the kit becomes the property of the renter and a $50 fee is charged when the vehicle is returned.
• GPS Navigation System (map based): AU$5.00 per day (min $75 and max $250)
• 4WD Recovery Kit: AU$100.00 per rental (includes snatch strap, 2 x bow schackles, saw, hammer, 12 lamp, 12V air pump, tyre tube, 2 x tyre levers, gloves and ground sheet)
• Satellite Phone: AU$17.00 per day (plus call costs)

  - Darwin and Alice Springs : AU$25.00

  Plus phone collection fee:

Kea clients receive a 10% discount at Top Tourist Parks and Family Parks (vouchers issued at pick-up).

Change of Vehicle

If, for reasons beyond our control, the reserved vehicle is not available, we reserve the right to substitute a comparable or superior vehicle at no extra cost to the client. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to any form of refund.

Taxes and Local State Tax

All charges include 10% GST and 2.5% Local State Tax. All rates and conditions are subject to change in accordance with changes in government taxes.
