This document contains a summary of some of the Spaceships Rental Conditions. For full detailed conditions refer to the conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement at pick-up. All prices quoted in this document are in Australian dollars. 

Protection Package

Standard insurance is included with the vehicle hire - this covers the hirer for any accident with a third party. Third party insurance is compulsory in Australia so any other vehicle involved in an accident will also have this cover. Depending on the circumstances of any accident you may be entitled to claim for personal injury against the third party insurance of the party responsible for the accident.

The cover and ability to claim on third party insurance varies depending on where you are in Australia , so we strongly recommend that you take out your own Personal Injury Travel Insurance.

If you are responsible for an accident the Vehicle's third party insurance should cover you for the liability except where you have committed a breach of the Vehicle's third party insurance policy, e.g. drink or otherwise dangerous driving.

The Vehicle is insured for damage to it or damage to the property of a third party. However t he hirer is responsible for the amount up to the bond (AUD$2000 or AUD$2500 for drivers under twenty five years old) for the damage to a third party property, or to the rented Vehicle. The hirer is also responsible for the cost of stand down time for the period the vehicle is unavailable while being repaired. The Excess applies in respect of each claim, not per rental. The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental. The excess will be refunded if Spaceships Pty Ltd is successful in recovering the costs of the damages from the Third Party.

The insurance excludes damage to the roof and under-body of the vehicle, and damage to the tyres and glass. Please remember - you must advise Spaceships as soon as an accident or incident with your vehicle occurs.

If an accident or breakdown occurs, the liability of Spaceships Pty Ltd or its agents, extends to either replacing your vehicle with a similar one, or refunding your hire charge for any days you lose the total use of the vehicle. It is at the discretion of Spaceships Pty Ltd and the circumstances as to whether we choose to release another vehicle to you following an accident.

Standard Excess

Spaceships's rental charge includes a Standard Excess of AU$2,000 (25+ year old drivers) or AU$2,500 (21-24 year old drivers). 

A Bond of AU$2,000 / AU$2,500 will be collected from you at the time of entering into the Rental Agreement. Payment of this Bond is only accepted by credit card. The AU$2,000 / AU$2,500 will be taken as credit card imprint with authorisation (which freezes the fund to deduct in the event of an accident or damage).

Windscreen/Glass Extension

Windscreen or glass breakages are not covered by the standard hire insurance but are included in Full or Half Cover. An additional non-refundable premium of $5.00 per hire day will cover you for the loss or breakage of windscreens or windows to the vehicle. This cover EXCLUDES the sunroof.

The Standard Excess can be reduced by purchasing one of the following Reduction Options:

1) Reduction Option 1 (Half Cover)

25+ Drivers: AU$10 per day reduces Excess to AU$750. Bond of AU$750.00 payable at pick-up (credit card imprint with authorisation).

21-24 Drivers: AU$15 per day reduces Excess to AU$1000. Bond of AU$1000.00 payable at pick-up (credit card imprint with authorisation).

2) Reduction Option 2 (Full Cover)

25+ Drivers: AU$20 per day reduces Excess to AU$0. No Bond taken but credit card imprint still required at pick-up.

21-24 Drivers: AU$25 per day reduces Excess to AU$0. No Bond taken but credit card imprint still required at pick-up.

Security Deposit (Bond)

A Security Deposit (Bond) is payable at pick-up. The Bond can only be paid with credit card and must be in the name of the primary hirer.

1) Standard Excess: AU$2,000 / AU$2,500 Bond payable by credit card only (imprint with authorisation).

2) Excess Reduction Option 1: AU$750 / AU$1,000 Bond payable by credit card only (imprint with authorisation).

3) Excess Reduction Option 2: No Bond taken but credit card imprint still required at pick-up.

*** Please keep in mind that the Excess (and relevant Bond) applies in respect of each claim, not per rental. Therefore you may need to put up multiple Bonds if you have multiple accidents or damage claims while on hire. ***

The Bond is fully refundable when the vehicle is returned to the correct location on time, is full of fuel and all other terms of the Rental Contract have been complied with. If there is damage to the vehicle on its return, the Bond will be used to cover the cost of such damage up to the amount of the relevant Excess. However, if the terms of the Rental Contract are breached and the Bond is insufficient to cover the damage then any extra cost will be charged.

Your Full Responsibility

At all times you will be responsible for:

• Damage caused where the terms of Rental Contract have been breached.
• Damage caused by negligence.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle in any way by part or total water submersion or salt water.
• Damage caused due to a single vehicle accident.
• Damage caused to the appliances and fixtures inside the vehicle unless in the case of a motor accident.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle by the renter's willful conduct.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle when using the Vehicle in contravention of any legislation or regulation controlling vehicular traffic.
• Damage or loss caused to any personal belongings.
• Damage caused due to use of incorrect or contaminated fuel.
• Damage to the sunroof, overhead or underbody of the vehicle.

Rental Charges

Rentals are charged per calendar day. Day of pick up and day of drop off are included as days of rental regardless of time of pick up and drop off. 

Branches

Spaceships has campervan branches in Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne and Sydney.

Branch opening hours:

Adelaide: Monday to Sunday (1000 to 1630)
Brisbane: Monday to Friday (1000 to 1630). Closed Saturday and Sundays.
Cairns: Monday to Saturday (1000 to 1630). Closed Sundays.
Melbourne: Monday to Sunday (1000 to 1630)
Sydney: Monday to Sunday (1000 to 1630)

The latest pick-up or drop-off is 1600.

Exceptions: All branches will be closed 24 - 26 December, 31 December - 01 January and Good Friday.

Transfer

Vehicles must be collected and returned to our branches (not airports).  Transfers to and from the Spaceships branch are not included in the rental price.  It is the client's responsibility to get to and from the branch. 

Rental Duration

The minimum rental for all vehicles is 5 days.

The minimum rental for one-way rentals is 10 days.

A 10-day minimum applies for rentals collected between 15 December 2008 and 15 January 2009.

Minimum rental periods are subject to change during peak seasons.

If a Spaceship is returned later than 5pm on the final hire day you will be charged an additional day's hire. Each day after the final hire day, that the Spaceship is not returned, you will be charged an additional day's hire as well as a $50 penalty per day.

One Way Rentals

One-way rentals are available between all branches subject to the minimum rental periods in the above table. A one-way rental fee of AU$200 is charged for rentals 13 days or less per segment. Rentals 14 days and over are not charged a one-way fee.

GST

Our rates include 10% GST and 2.5% tax levy.

Credit Cards

Our preferred payment method is by credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club. Visa and MasterCard will incur an additional 1.5% on any transaction, including any debited Bond. American Express and Diners Club will incur an additional 3% surcharge fee on any transaction, including any debited Bond.

Exchange Rate / Currency Variations

All credit card transactions are conducted in Australian dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Spaceships do not accept any Excess for variances up or down. Refunds by credit card can take up to 15 working days depending on the renter's Financial Institution.

Driver's Licence

- A current and full state or national driver's licence is required per driver at pick-up.
- Provisional licences are not accepted.
- Copies or translations of driver's licences are not accepted.
- If the licence is not readable in English, an international driver's licence must accompany the original licence.
- The licence must have been held for at least 1 year and be valid for the whole length of the rental.

Age Restrictions

The minimum age to drive the vehicle is 21 years.

Kitchen and Personal Kits

Each vehicle is supplied with complimentary living equipment (such as bedding, cooking equipment, eating utensils and tea towels).

Bedding includes: 1 x duvet (double), 1 x fitted bed sheet (double), 2 x pillows with pillow case. Towels are not included.

Each vehicle is supplied with a complimentary road map as well as campground guides.

Spaceships clients receive special discounts at "space stations" (i.e. businesses affiliated with Spaceships), along the east coast of Australia . Please refer to the Spaceships Survival Kit provided at pick-up.

Vehicle Consultation

On pick-up of the vehicle our staff will provide a complimentary vehicle consultation. This includes an explanation of all the interior and exterior features of the vehicle as well as driving tips.

Spaceships Survival Kit

All Spaceships come with a Space Survival Kit including a Spaceship instruction manual ('It's not Rocket Science'), Route Planning and instruction DVD and other intergalactic goodies to make your space travel more enjoyable.

Baby Capsules

Baby capsules are not permitted in any Spaceships vehicle.

Baby Seats

Baby seats are not permitted in any Spaceships vehicle.

Booster Seats

Booster seats are not permitted in any Spaceships vehicle.

L.P. Gas Cannisters

The vehicle comes with a cooker with four disposable cannisters*. The gas is highly flammable and you must ensure the gas valve is fully closed at all times other than when the BBQ are ignited and in use. The BBQs must only be used when OUTSIDE the vehicle either on the stand provided with the vehicle or fully removed from the vehicle. It is illegal and a safety hazard to use the cookers inside the cabin area. Please exercise extreme caution with matches, lighters or cigarettes in the vicinity of the gas bottle.

*If you use more than the four gas cannisters, then extras have to be purchased at your own expense.

Travel Restrictions

Spaceships can only be driven on tar sealed/bitumen roads. The vehicle is not covered by insurance when travelling on dirt roads except if they are well maintained access roads to recognised campgrounds. Spaceships are able to be taken to Tasmania , Kangaroo Island & Magnetic Island , but can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads.

Spaceships reserves the right to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions at its discretion.

Change of Vehicle

Spaceships reserves the right to substitute a comparable vehicle or superior vehicle at no extra cost.  This shall not constitute a breach of contract, and does not entitle the renter to any refund.

Vehicle Category

Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.

Voluntary Downgrade

Should the renter decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refund.

Roadside Assistance

If you have any mechanical troubles in space we provide free Australian Automobile Association (AAA) 24 hour roadside assistance. The AAA will assist you free of charge for any MECHANICAL issues you may have during your travels.

A call out fee of $85 applies, payable by the hirer should you require assistance for any non-mechanical issues including: Locking keys in vehicle, losing keys, running the battery flat, punctures to tyres, running out of fuel or putting the wrong fuel in the vehicle.

Any costs you incur for minor repairs (excluding non mechanical repairs above) we will give you a refund (up to AUD$100); you just need to produce receipts.

You must contact us immediately if any major repairs are needed for your Spaceship. Failure to do so may compromise any claim that may eventuate after the hire is finished.

Spaceships Pty Ltd is only liable for refunding the time that the vehicle was actually in repair and will not pay for alternative accommodation or food requirements during that time. If your DVD/CD player, fridge, water pump or cooker malfunctions while you are travelling they are not considered mechanical breakdowns and downtime will not be paid for these items. Retrospective claims will not be accepted by Spaceships Pty Ltd.

Repairs

Any costs you incur for minor repairs (excluding non mechanical repairs above) we will give you a refund (up to AU$100) but you need to produce receipts.

Rentals in Melbourne (City Link)

With the introduction of electronic tolls to City Link roads in Melbourne (3 rd January 2000), clients will need to ensure they have a pass to use the roads. Clients without a pass will be liable of fines up to AU$150.00.

Traffic Infringements

Spaceships reserve the right to charge the renter for any speeding or parking fines, traffic infringements and road toll fines. An additional administration fee of AU$75 per fine will apply to cover the costs of processing.

Limit of Liability

In the event of no alternative vehicle being available to the renter our Excess is limited to a refund of the hire charge or in the case of mechanical failure (unless caused by the renter) the remainder of the hire period.

Travel Insurance

Spaceships strongly recommends that clients ensure they take out the highest level of Travel Insurance.

Animals

No animals are permitted in our vehicles, excluding guide dogs.

Important

Spaceships reserves the right to refuse any rental at our discretion.

Cleaning

The vehicle must be returned in a reasonable state of cleanliness or the hirer may be charged a cleaning fee up to $250. If applicable, the toilet and waste (grey) water tank must both be returned empty or a $150 cleaning charged will be imposed. 4WD vehicles must be free of mud on the outside.

Booking Amendments

Booking amendments made prior to pick-up are subject to vehicle availability and may result in rate adjustments.

Rental Extension

If the customer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from Reservations. This is subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone or at an Spaceships Branch immediately on confirmation of the rental extension. The additional days will be charged at the applicable rate (as advised by Spaceships) available at the time of the extension.

Failure to obtain authorisation will result in the renter being charged double the daily gross rental rate.

• Camping Tent: AU$80.00 per rental (no mattresses)
• Esky/Cooler: AU$20.00 per rental
• Thermos/Flask: AU$5.00 per rental
• Oil Heater (mains plug required): AU$25.00 per rental
• Mains 240V Plug (power cord): AU$50.00 per rental
