The Bathurst 1000 race is one of the great events on the Australian motorsport calendar. Bathurst is a large rural town in New South Wales, approximately 200km west of Sydney (about a 3-hour drive). The Mount Panorama track is 3.5km from the town's centre. The most popular pick-up locations for Bathurst campervan hire are Sydney and Melbourne. Most campervan rental companies place a 7 or 10-day minimum for rentals out of these branches at this time.
For V8 enthusiasts, the iconic race track at Mount Panorama is considered to be the Mecca of Motorsport. The event is popular with a wide range of people, from the young through to the old. Many families also make the pilgrimage to Bathurst each year to watch the race live and soak up the atmosphere. Ticket prices for 2011 start from $215.00 for Grandstand Tickets and General Admission tickets start from $75.00 (Transaction fees from $5.95 per transaction apply). As well as booking your campervan, you also need to consider getting in early for a camp site. To
purchase a Camping package for a V8 Supercar Event you must register (registration is free). For 2010 campers, they have first access to campsites and have a right of refusal period between 28 March - 15 April. Any changes or additional site purchases can then be made between 18 - 29 April. The remaining sites then go on sale to the public from 03 May 2011. Bookings can only be made online.
The Bathurst 1000 has a designated Motorhome Park which has a limited number of powered sites. (Power will incur an additional cost).
Or you can "free camp" away from power in the other campgrounds, providing the campervan or motorhome fits in the campsite size. The Motor Home Park and other campgrounds have toilet and shower facilities but there are no cooking facilities provided.
