We returned the 2 Berth campervan this afternoon and the trip was great. 10 days was definitely not enough time to travel from Cairns to Brisbane seeing everything along the way but we still had an enjoyable trip. We spend a few hours driving each day usually in the afternoon and saw the towns in the morning. We stopped at Cairns, Port Douglas, Mission Beach, Tully, Rockhampton, Mackay, 1770, Agnes Waters, Gympie, Noosa, Mapleton and Maleny. It was a good combinatoin of beach and inland!!
In terms of Salamanda, I found them to be excellent. Jane, you were so helpful, especially in looking into other options for me and also in your prompt replies. I really appreciate everything you did, especially as you went way beyond my expectations. The website was also helpful, but it was the follow up emails and calls which made the difference.
In terms of the vehicle, we actually were given an Apollo hightop (not a Cheapa one). The vehicle itself was good (although we did have to eat dinner on the bed as the table converted into the bed base), and our experience with Apollo Brissy was great.
Once again thanks for all your help!!!

We were very happy with our campervan hire through Salamanda Travel. The company pointed us in the right direction when the original campervan we wanted was booked out and they gave us the best deal that they could on the Apollo 6 Berth Euro Deluxe Motorhome.
We picked up our home on wheels from Alice Springs and proceeded to visit Uluru, Kings Canyon and everything all the way up to Darwin.
We found the campervan to be terrific and very easy to drive. It was easy to park and we never had a problem with finding somewhere to park this vehicle. The motor home was very spacious and very easy to spend 12 days in (I was suprised by how big it actually was).
Caravan parks were a bit hard to find as it was school holidays and so it made it much easier that we could run the 12V battery power when we were not able to obtain a powered site.
The Apollo had a shower and a toilet which we did not use all the time, but this was for convenience and was at some stages a Gods' send.
I found the Apollo staff to be very helpful and approachable and the motorhome itself was in tip-top condition.
I was suprised at how well the Apollo campervan ran on the long straight roads around the Northern Territory - it never skipped a beat.
The money we spent in hiring this Apollo was well worth it and I would recommend Apollo to anyone looking to hire a campervan to do a driving holiday.
We saw so many wonderful Australian Outback features that you couldn't normally see. We had full freedom to travel and stop where we wanted and had no pressure.
It was a wonderful trip and we now trying to work out where we want to go next with Apollo and Salamanda.

Back in Switzerland and I would glad to make some comments to our more than 50 days hire of the 4WD Campervan from Cheapa: First of all, I would like to repeat that the offer/booking through your office was excellent, speedy and very professionel. I will certainly use Salamanda again in case I will need a campervan in Australia. The campervan was an older model but apart from some minor incidences (one of the two gas hotplates didn't function at all and the main battery went down once in a remote area!!) we travelled more than 9,000 km without any problems. The 4WD Campervan is good on roads requesting high clearance and we travelled on roads in very rough conditions.

My experience with Salamanda Travel was very good, helpful and efficient.
Jucy vans are not as well-designed as others but they are cheap so can't really complain. I have actually converted my own Toyota Estima into a camper van. We travelled to Mt French near Brisbane and went rock climbing at Frog Butress.

We booked the Apollo 6 Berth Euro Deluxe for our family holiday to Byron Bay (a couple of hours south of Brisbane ). We chose the Apollo because we liked the seating and bed layout for our 3 kids. The kids all fitted in the dinette seating area (including one in a baby seat and another in a booster seat). We also managed to fit our travel cot (portacot) in the aisle up the back of the motorhome, so our baby had this whole area to himself at night. The other kids shared the dinette bed while us adults slept in the overcab bed.
We weren't sure how a motorhome trip would work out for us but we loved it and the kids had a ball. We stayed a caravan park overlooking Belongil beach at Bryon. We set up the motorhome for the week and could relax and swim every day. Thanks for your help with organising our trip – we hope to do it again soon!

We were very happy with our campervan booking through Salamanda Travel. You bent over backwards to help us and we have recommend your organisation to friends already.
Likewise, the Apollo team were fantastic as well. The staff were friendly and co-operative. The only thing is that we had to take a 6-berth motor home as they didn't have a 3-berth. We found the 6-berth rather large and although great on the open road, once we arrived in a town, we generally couldn't park it in the main street to have a look around. Also, petrol cost us at least $65 per day!! We would certainly use Apollo again and to be honest are thinking about a camper van next time.
We learned a few things on the way, like we didn't need a vehicle with a loo/shower as we only used the caravan park facilities – I'm not comfortable just parking at the side of the road; we always went into parks. We just want a vehicle that we can park anywhere to look around a town/city. The only problem of course with a campervan is that if we stay in a place for more than one day we would have to pack everything up each day before we went out and about.
We travelled over 4,000 kms and our dog was great all the way with the exception of the last 2 days when she got a bit restless. We met some lovely people along the way – we discovered the people that “caravan” are usually like us - “grey nomads”. We visited so many places and our favourite place was Gunnedah; not sure why, it just had a nice feel to it and the people were very friendly.
Most caravan parks were great and had really clean facilities with camp kitchens, etc. The average was about $25.00/night with the exception of Swan Hill which was $37!!! We did get a discount because we were with Apollo but it was still way above the others (and had no better facilities than the others!). Uralla was disappointing; they turned the power off at 12 midnight and back on at 5:30 am even though we paid for a powered site (I intend writing a letter!). Also the supermarket closed at 3pm – just as well it was an overnighter!
It was great to be home but now we have been home a week or so, we are restless to go again and are already talking about it (just mulling over which way to do it). Our trip has awakened the caravanning experience which we had never had before. We have travelled a lot but always in a car and staying in motels. We will always only now travel the way that allows our little dog to come with us.
As I said, we had a great time and want to do it again – tomorrow!!!!

Just writing to say quickly that I found all the arrangements were good, no complications. The Kea 2+2 Flip Top also performed well and the Kea staff were thoughtful and very helpful, even once on the road (re: booking e-tolls etc). All in all my expectations were fully met. Thanks to your staff for all their help.

Thank you for your help with booking the Apollo 6 Berth Euro Deluxe campervan. It was a great trip - one of our best holidays ever. Below are some snaps from our trip along the Great Ocean Road between Melbourne and Adelaide, including the campervan at Marengo, the 12 Apostles at sunset and the campground at Nuriootpa with friends.

Just want to let you know that the Apollo 4WD campervan that I rented through your agency is doing great and I really enjoy our travelling. The type of campervan that you suggested was exactly right, thanks for that!

I have passed on the details of your company to some interested travellers. Hopefully something will come out of that. I have enclosed a photo of me on my travels. I did have a great time. I hope to be back in touch with you soon regarding a booking in Alice Springs in October. Again, thanks!
